Bio

Devleena Ghosh teaches in the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences at the University of Technology, Sydney and is the Coordinator of the Indian Ocean and South Asia Research Network. She has published widely in colonial, global and environmental history and is particularly interested in inter-colonial connections in the Indian Ocean in the 19th and 20th centuries. She is the author of Colonialism and Modernity (with Paul Gillen, 2007) and the editor of Cultures of Trade: Indian Ocean Exchanges (with Stephen Muecke, 2007), Water, Border and Sovereignty in Asia and Oceania (with Goodall & Donald, 2008) and Shadowlines: Women and Borders in Contemporary Asia (2012).

Her current projects deal with connections between Indian and Australian women during the Cold War period, coal mining and climate change in India, Australia and Germany and syncretic religious movements in India.
