Dr Katie Reed

Programme Director, Postgraduate courses in Public Health and Primary Care

Bio

I qualified as a nurse and midwife in the UK. I completed an MSc in Health Promotion. My dissertation involved conducting a Knowledge, attitudes and practice study concerning malaria and mosquito net use in Kenya. I then spent the next eight years entirely concerned with malaria control, mostly in sub Saharan Africa. I retuned to the UK to take up a five year Research Fellowship at the University of Manchester, where I completed a PhD examining the factors affecting the recruitment and retention of practice and district nurses in the UK.
I feel strongly that online courses can help health workers and others to increase their understanding and application of public health and research skills. In particular I am committed to improving the access of students from developing countries to appropriate and high quality higher education opportunities.
