Bio

I’m a multi-disciplinary vertebrate palaeontologist from HK. I lead HKU's Vertebrate Palaeontology Laboratory in the Department of Earth Sciences. I earned a BSc and MSc in geology at UCL and pursued a PhD there on ‘the evolution and biomechanics of dinosaurian tails’ completing in 2012. My primary interests are: the evolution of theropod dinosaurs, especially the closet relatives of birds; the evolutionary biomechanics of vertebrates (how dinosaurs and other vertebrates move); fossil imaging using laser light to reveal new information. I regularly study fossils from China with Prof. Xu Xing (IVPP, Beijing), much of which we excavate on our own expeditions e.g. the Velociraptor-relative Linheraptor from the Inner Mongolia Research Project.
