Acerca de SDG Talk

SDG Talk is the discussion community of the SDG Initiative. In July 2017, a group of 17 universities from 5 continents and Coursera decided to launch a new learning experience for those who want to turn their learning into real-life impact: help achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Each of the courses offered as part of the SDG Initiative, allows learners to engage with a dedicated partner organisation, such as a non-profit organisation, humanitarian aid organisation or a UN agency, and to assist them with one of their ongoing projects. The type of hands-on projects differ per course, and range from virtual mapping projects to local activities....

  • The online event in the MOOC sphere known as Teach-Out was coined by Michigan University after the teach-in’s of the 1960’s which started at their campus. The main purpose of a Teach-Out is to converse with peers, experts and professionals in the field, about a topic currently in the news that is of fundamental importance for society and SDG’s. You can find a list of Michigan's Teach-Outs at Teach-Out.org.

  • This is a completely free learning experience!

  • Starting on the 17th of October 2018 We will release a podcast, with associated discussion, every two hours. In some cases the instructors will be available to react to your discussions directly (marked LIVE), in other cases it will be just your peers and our mentors. We will close the event with a live debate on Saturdaymorning the 20th in the Hague, which you can attend online, or in person. You can find more details in the syllabus on how to sign up for the live event.,

  • Podcasts are provided on every topic, as well as an extensive library with freely available documentation. The focus of the event is on the discussion forums. You can go into the discussion forums directly, whether for just one particular conversation, or several, but we urge you to listen & read the material available to help shape your position & arguments.

  • What do you take away from a particular conversation? It can be everything from a simple observation to a call to action. You decide.

  • We stick with the community guidelines detailed in the first module of this event. This means we expect you to Participate, Collaborate, Be Respectful, Be Academic and above all Be safe. Further guidance in the day to day conversation will be given by the mentors, trained by Leiden University, who will help e-moderate the discussion. If you have further interest in our position on community management you can reach out to us at mooc@sea.leidenuniv.nl

  • No. There are no quizzes, no grading policy, and we will not be offering a certificate of participation. The only goal of participation is enlightening yourself. We think that is priceless in itself.
