Hi, welcome to Cloud you, my name is Chris Peters, and I'm here today to talk about accelerating your success, building on the strong foundation of Intel optimizations. I'm a 20 year veteran at Intel, and had a range of roles, all focused on helping our customers, and partners, embrace and utilize Intel technologies, to drive business value for the organizations. Currently I'm the program director for Intel select solutions, and supporting marketing program called Intel IOT market ready, too offerings you'll hear more about in this session. Across the cloud you materials my colleagues and exploring the range of technology options, business use cases, deployment models, and offerings. In this session, we're going to focus on the topic of optimization. Optimization is defined, as the action of making the best, or most effective use of the situation or resource. In applied situation for business, companies are interested in the optimization of their business with technology. We're going to cover three areas today, help you make sure you're aware of Intel's role, in the investments we're making around optimization, and the benefits they have to your customers. Help you articulate the benefits of joint innovation and optimization, in the marketplace. And third, to give you the ability to find and take advantage of, and realize the benefits for yourself. At Intel optimization is both part of our heritage, and our passion, is reinforce the origin of our company name, Intel, which stands for integrated electronics. We seek the truth better together, which is what optimization is all about. I'd like to begin any discussion on technology, focus on the end game, which is business value. Transformation sometimes feels like a buzzword, but the concept in activity associated with digital transformation, has proven an ability to offers, an incredible strategic advantage. For companies that can harness their data, available technology, and infrastructure, to create, and develop a competitive advantage and competitive value for their business. And there's increasing pressure today to accelerate this transformation initiatives, but often within existing resources like headcount, and budget. And in this context, time is in fact money, the challenge is hard, and it's complex. The sheer number of offerings across software, hardware, different partners, deployment models can represent barriers to moving fast. In the face of these challenges, imperative that companies maintain, and maximize the return on their investment, with reduced risk and higher confidence. And this backdrop that many successful organizations are applying, a workload specific strategy, instead of taking a one size fits all approach. Organizations are becoming more dependent on expert help to increase confidence, and speed, solution delivery. This is an opportunity for each of you, to increase your value to your customers. It's important to realize that solution selling always starts with the customer first, not the technology. And it seeks to understand the key pain points, industry trends, and market opportunities to best address your customers needs. As your conversation plays out around their business strategies, pain points and growth areas, you're going to find opportunities to map those needs and priorities to specific workloads. Like analytics, cloud, high performance computing, networking, and applications. And you're going to be able to better understand their desired return on investments. And what benefits they want to get back like lower cost, higher performance, security, ease of use, speed of deployment, in any preference they may have for different unique solution providers. It's important remember that customers are most likely looking for holistic solutions, innovation across their business. Where they can use data, to drive their business or topics of security, scalability, cost, and productivity are often woven in. Done right, your customers will increasingly look to you, as a trusted advisor for them, for technology advice, solutions, partners, and services. Businesses and IT organizations look to optimize solutions, as a way to deliver better value to their organizations. Couple of years ago Intel asked Forrester consulting to do some research, around the value solutions, and optimized blueprints. What they found was not surprising, is that organizations value this for both technical, and business reasons. They see benefits of faster time to innovation, faster time to value, better performance capability through integration, and better overall return on their investment. The challenges that were realized in the study, also said that many customers are not satisfied with the way they are buying today. And part of the things that I believe is that, many different partners are pitching different approaches and ideas, around transformation around which solutions are best, which can lead to confusion. The industry values orchestration, and this is where Intel has, is, and is continuing to play a key role, on workloads and solution optimization. Optimizing workloads doesn't happen automatically, and certainly not overnight. In some ways, optimization doesn't really have an end state, since technology, use models are constantly changing. However, as new workloads use cases and breakthrough technology emerge, the best known solution does not appear instantly. And customers are looking for proven approaches that work today, so they can reduce their risks, and maximize their ROI. Intel offers a unique perspective enroll, we start early, and don't stop in our optimization efforts. From architectural definition, of new and emerging workloads, to broad scale service and solution delivery, from a variety of solution providers, that customers can rely on today. Intel plays a foundational role. What's shown here is an example of how Intel's network platform group, has been developing a range of different solutions over a hierarchy, over time around our five G network transformation. It starts in early years of reference architectures, and reference platforms, proving out early proof of concepts, publishing best known configurations, deriving solution. Deriving solution reference designs, and now a breadth of proven commercially available solutions in these areas. Throughout this journey, you can see that we both engage in targeted, and broad investments and partnerships, with a range of social providers, customers and use cases. When it comes to workload optimization, Intel's is uniquely positioned to help, first to start out as the Intel, you probably know best. This is our role, and hardware markets, is well documented, we focus on a broad range of what we call data centric portfolio. That can help end users, and partners, help them move, store process and secure their data. From networking products, to memory, to stores, to a range of processors for edge, client, IOT, and accelerators. This range of platforms, products, boards, and systems are all engineered together, to meet a variety of needs and alternatives. What many people don't know, is that Intel takes a key leadership role in the software ecosystem as well. In fact, we're one of the largest software companies, if we were listed independently in the Fortune 500. We engage millions of developers, and employ 15,000 software engineers, that are working constantly to enable, and tune key workloads, and address platform bottlenecks, so you don't have to. There are thousands of applications that are optimized to run on Intel architecture, both commercial and open source, and we are the lead number one contributor to the Linux kernel. And we participate actively in open source communities, it's my belief that better solutions start with quality ingredients, and our cupboards are stocked full of those ingredients. There are also many tears to how Intel drives optimization, we're going to use this to organize some of the key things that will walk through next. First, if you look at the lowest level in the broadest level of optimization, is focused on software enabling. Where we work with a variety of application vendors, but also work directly with many Fortune 500 companies, and numerous solution partners to tune their applications and code for the best results on intel products and platforms. Secondly, we start to move up the stack where optimization starts to combine hardware and software together. You'll see a variety of recommendations and capabilities that include benchmarking reference architecture, reference designs, size and guides and optimized instances for cloud service providers. At the very top of our optimization pyramid, our workload optimized solutions where we see configurations and joint recommendations with partner solutions that are proven against set of standards of benchmarking or customer proven deployed solutions. Often they're pre tested and verified with these providers and they really are aiming at reducing the guesswork and accelerating deployment. Let's explore the first tools and libraries form the foundation of Intel's optimization efforts. Intel offers a wide range of tools that accelerate code development, implement new features and capabilities and optimize performance on intel platforms. We recently consolidated and unified a range of tools and our one api environment that enables developers to port code more easily across a range of Intel's architectural portfolio. A couple examples here with the intel math kernel library, Qihoo 3 60 A PRC security company was able to minimize front and compute with our C b L A S libraries and optimize automatic speech recognition by speeding up by five X. With the V tune profiler. Mentor graphics was able to achieve a two X improvement through their code optimization and finally, slumbers developers were able to increase their pipes and performance by 10 X using our intel cluster studio to help paralyze their code and optimize their software with intel developer tools. We help you and your customers achieve their goals and help them get the most out of their intel platforms with the skill sets that they likely already have in their organizations by taking advantage of our tools and libraries. These optimizations are benefit that many customers and solution workloads enjoy without ever realizing it. The next area of optimization happens at the commercial level. Application certification is critical for so many organizations looking for that support their solution environments, but Intel helps deliver value beyond it just works. Certification includes application performance and feature optimization For many leading commercial software providers around the world. We have longstanding engineering and business relationships With over 700 industry leading ISV. S who are actively working to optimize their performance on our latest generations of products and technologies at Oracle for instance, on site. Intel engineers for the X a. M have helped set world record performance for database analytics, Reducing latency by 10 x. and driving throughput higher at 2.5 x. VM ware was able to achieve 87% higher virtual desktop instances per server and reduce total cost of ownership of dollars per desktop user by 16% by using our latest intel obtained technology and VM ware Visa and solution software. S. A P, one of the most popular e R p solution providers around the world has used the second gen, Intel Xeon scalable processors with a new obtained persistent memory to boost data load at application startup by 12.5 x, which effectively allows organizations to continue to update their S A P platform without getting without having a significant hit on their down time to maintain critical business operations. Red hat has helped optimize their cloud, native container performance and Microsoft Azure stack H C I has taken advantage of processor memory and network product technology in their latest cloud based hyper converged infrastructure solution. These are just a few examples where we've seen some optimization but best bet is whichever application your customer is looking for is likely that Intel has a partnership with them has extracted maximum value out of their workload on Intel architecture. Already want to turn now to open source is a real critical part of many transformation initiatives at many companies. Intel is an early enabler of open source software and has been a leading contributor to hundreds of communities. This means that open source software is quickly enabled for the latest technologies and platforms so customers can realize the full benefits of open innovation environment. Were the number one contributor to the Linux kernel and many processor level features require os enabling our engineers are working in hand to activate these new features inside the kernel, test them to make sure that they're capable of working and then upstream them into the kernel maintainers. Open Vino is an open source and quickly ramping into a leadership position for aI based processing of visual data across multiple hardware platforms and we've seen some really great results with tensor and pytorch who are leading AI libraries used for a variety of machine learning and deep learning tasks recently optimized with the B float instructions, customers can see a 1.9 X gender gen, higher training performance with tensorflow and a 2.7 X more inference performance with my torch and finally technology and capability want to highlight is the data plane developers cater D P D K, which is an open source toolkit that was initiated by Intel and in the Linux foundation with the goal of helping displace the proprietary purpose built packet processing that was so prevalent in the core of the world's telecommunication market Today, it's one of the most successful data plane development tool kits in the world and increased packet throughput performance by over 8.5 x. Since its inception. Up to this point, we've talked really about individual workloads being optimized. But the true power of optimization is when you can start to bring together many highly efficient tools and applications into a business workflow to solve a real business problem. This is where I want to talk about interest concept of a data pipeline that highlights how data is consumed, analyzed and utilized inside a business to deliver actionable insights, a key challenge for most organizations and at the heart of many transformation initiatives, the ability to boost performance across many applications, reducing bottlenecks. In any one area is really critical to getting the best out of your infrastructure environment With Intel. You're ready to take advantage of this end to end strategy across this entire data pipeline. While these are some just key examples of ingest preparation and analyze and some of the IS V applications that we've worked with, we have over 50 optimized data pipeline workloads today and are confident this list will grow significantly in the future. I want to turn our attention to optimization in the cloud where we have a range of workloads and services that are available today and many of the benefits of the Cape bills we've talked about so far underpin many of the cloud service provider offerings that are available in the world today and power much of the world's business intel directly engages with the top 100 CS PS to optimize their workloads and share expertise across orchestration software, stacks and security. You can see some of the benefits here on the left hand side around popular cloud workloads and use cases were able to to be able to boost performance and capability for high performance computing, artificial intelligence storage, continue ization throughput. Just to name a few Intel engineers collaborated with Microsoft Azure as an example to deliver scalable confidential computing service based on Intel's Sgx to protect cloud tenant data with a hardware based trusted execution environment. The end goal of all this optimization is the resulting choice of solutions that are available and ready to deploy that are highly performant from a provider of your choice. Intel enables complete solutions to accelerate our customers trying to market across a wide range of the workloads, whether they are through cloud and communications service providers or in combination with a rich set of o e, m, and other solution providers. For customers looking for cloud consumption. They have confidence that not only are today's top clouds powered by Intel. But Intel has deep collaboration and co engineering with, what I call, the A to z of cloud service providers from AWS and Azure and Baidu to Google Cloud to z.com and ZTE. On the flip side, other solutions are available from a wide range of solution providers that are flexible and capable. And here just three areas on the right hand side of hybrid cloud, confidential computing and HPC. Where leaders are bringing solutions together, all running on Intel architecture. Whether you want to deploy on premise or in the cloud or build a hybrid of both. Next thing I want to turn to is focusing on pre-verified workload optimized solutions to a program, we call, Intel Select Solutions. Too much choice can be a negative. And a key challenge in knowing what instance or solution configuration will work best for workload is a key barrier we talked about earlier around that transformation initiative. And it's our goal with Intel select solutions to help customers choose a known good workload that's been optimized for their business need. An example of how this helps can be seen with the recent partnership with AWS. AWS offers over 400 cloud instances. And in partnership with them, we verified three of their instances that are optimized for high performance computing workload such as simulation and modeling. The C5N, M5N and R5N instances in the AWS parallel cluster is the first cloud solution to meet the requirements of Intel select solutions. This parallel cluster is available to meet the standards set by the Intel HPC platform specification. Use specific install instance types and are configured to use the elastic fabric and network interface unique to AWS. Bottom line, Intel Select solutions helps offer a fast path to traditional procurement approaches whether you're building, buying or renting your solutions for your business. The Intel Select solution portfolio is a broad range of optimized premium configuration for a range of broad topic categories in the marketplace. Such as AI and analytics, Cloud services, hyper convention infrastructure, networking, high performance computing and security. This program offers detailed reference designs for both commercial commercial ISV such as Microsoft, red hat VM ware and ASAP but also with many open source alternatives. These reference designs and recipes provide recommended configurations of the latest hardware and software designed and put together for high performance, price performance. Security and capabilities have been tested against workload specific benchmarks agreed to with the ISD. Solution providers who demonstrate the ability to further optimize their solution against these specifications are verified as Intel Select solutions. Select solutions are offered both as recipes for innovation with development partners, which you see on the left. And high quality proven solutions from solution providers, what you see on the right. We have 33 unique recipes from both commercial ISVS and open source providers across a range of key focus areas such as artificial intelligence, analytics, cloud. High performance computing, network transformation and security. We have over 150 verified solution partners across a range of partners, including software vendors, system integrators. OAM and multinationals cloud service providers and value added resellers. You can find both our solution recipes and our verified partners at intel.com/selectsolutions. Select solutions are focused on the data center but we have solutions that go beyond the data center to help provide edge to cloud solutions. Select is complemented by another program that features and highlights proven solutions called the IOT Market Ready solutions. These MRS Is our customer proven commercial solution offerings from Intel partners that have demonstrated business value and repeatability. For industry specific use cases and edge focused innovation. The combination of these two programs gives information technology, operations technology, business leaders, architects and developers. A tremendous choice for building with known good high quality proven solutions. The combination of IOT Market ready and Intel select solutions provide customers with the choice of over 500 unique solutions from over 300 unique partners. That have been deployed over 300,000 times. I started with this slide and I want to end in recap with the slide as well. Solutions about having a conversation with customers to understand their desire to transform their pain points, their goals and their approaches. Using these conversations, understand which workloads applications or investments are most important and time critical. As you understand which workloads are best fit for your customer, you can guide them as a trusted advisor to an intel optimized solution. One thing to leave in mind is, customers are looking for real innovation that's proven and capable for their organizations with low risk, they're not looking for science projects. So, one of the best ways to demonstrate value of a solution is through proof of deployment and proof of value creation. We hear this a lot from our partners, our sales teams and then customers who are constantly looking for examples of who's done this before. So they invest in confidence. Customer stories are a great way to stimulate innovation and encourage ideation for business transformation. A resource that you can use as our new customer spotlight hub on intel.com. Where you can find solution case studies that showcase not only the end customer, but also the solution providers used in achieving business value. Every customer's journey is different. Some want to build, some want to buy some which want to rent and many want to mix of all three. And whether it's on cloud or on-prem or hybrid of the two, we have opportunities and resources to help you build solutions with intel. To provide you the breadth and depth that your customers are looking for. Offering a range of optimized workload capabilities. Whether it's for in house customer software or off-the-shelf commercial software. You can tap into pre-existing and pre-optimized commercial or open source solution offerings for a range of partners. You can see some of our development resources over on the left hand side that can help you build solutions with Intel inside. Or on the other side of the slide here, we have resources to help you buy solutions from partners. Intel solutions marketplace is a new capability that features our partner solutions providing a B2B and B2C digital platform that features those offerings and capabilities. What they are intended for, what industries and what workloads and use cases are available. Also highlighting here our cloud ecosystem and the breadth of the cloud CSP marketplaces where you can finally consume intel based instances.
