In this module, we're going to be talking about the applications of FinTech
You could think of it as the fin of fintech, or
the finance market opportunities
What are people doing, what are startups doing?
What are new business opportunities, what are the apps that are being created?
What are the new business models, or firms, startups, that are being created?
We're going to talk about this in terms of six different perspectives or
categories of business startups or opportunities
We're going to talk about lending and personal finance, so
the consumer side of banking, credit cards, personal finance, loans
And so, what's the consumer's perspective of borrowing in this fintech world and
how's that different?
We're going to talk about financing of businesses, so borrowing is a business
But also, raising capital, crowd funding
investing in terms of startups and opportunities, and
crowd funding, crowd sourcing, business financing
And sort of the business side of fintech opportunities
and new ways to think about business finance
We're going to talk about payments and retail transactions
the competitors to Visa and MasterCard and American Express
The new startups, the Apple Pay, the Alipay, the Wechat wallet and payment systems
Or PayPal has a relatively old, but still fintech kind of innovative new
application of a different way to think about finance and opportunities
So we're going to look at payments and
retail transactions as a different view of FinTech.
And how that's becoming a very populated space in FinTech markets.
We're going to look at equity and trading and investments
which includes things like algo-trading, or other types of AI based or
innovative based trading systems and platforms
Or new ways of trading stocks, the many, many different startups in that space.
Any discussion of fintech would be incomplete
without a discussion of cryptocurrencies
So we're going to look at cryptocurrencies and their implications for
financial services
And what's going on with ICOs and different kinds of cryptocurrencies and
this kind of market opportunity
More than Bitcoin, but a world of cryptocurrencies and
activities going on there
Then finally, we're going to look at fintech from the perspective of
infrastructure, tools, logistics, support
What else is going on that is not necessarily consumer-based, or
business finance, or stock trading, or cryptocurrencies
But is happening somewhat in the background, but
still powerful infrastructure, tools, capabilities, logistics
support, etc in this fintech world
