[MUSIC] [BLANK_AUDIO]. Hello. In this video we will be devoted to highlight the most important aspects of the first Olympic Congress Paris, in which the revival of the Olympic Games was decided. All was started on June, 1894 at the International Congress for the reestablishment of the Olympic Games, held at Paris-Sorbonne University. There were representatives from different countries, the great majority, Europeans, and from the United States of America. In total, 2000 people attended the opening day in the Palais de Sorbonne on the 16th of June. They constituted the International Olympic for the Olympic Games committee and decided that the first Olympic Games would be held in Athens two years later, in 1896. The promoter of the Congress was the French, Pierre de Coubertin. The Olympic Games could be a vital contribution to the peace among nations. This was one of the main ideas that the French educator Coubertin presented. The congress was structured around two main subjects. The issue of the Amateurism on the one hand, and on the other hand, the revival of the Olympic Games. According to professor Norbert Müller, the commission devoted to deal with the revival of the Olympic Games and agreed after three meetings that the Olympic Games needed to be revived. The decisions that were taken are summarized in the following points: Only amateurs would be to participate with the exception of fencing. The International Olympic Committee would be in charge of the organisation of the Games, the inclusion and exclusion of athletes, and the IOC would make every effort possible to generate public support from the governments. Competition in the following sports should be carried out: Athletics, diverse ball games, ice skating, fencing, boxing, wrestling. Equestrianism, shooting, gymnastics, cycling. A combined competition called pentathlon, on occasion of the Olympic Games, a prize for alpinism would be awarded to honouring the greatest achievement during the previous years. The first Olympic Games would be held in Athens in 1896 and the second in Paris in 1900. Subsequently, they would be every four years. Coubertin was a man with a great talent for the public relations, with very good contacts in the Parisian newspapers. Originally Coubertin had planed to stage the first Olympic Games, in 1900 in Paris. However, the delegators considered that six years were too much time to wait. Dimetrius Vikelas, representative from Greece, offered Athens to stage the Games in 1896, while London was another option. Finally, Athens got the organization of the first Games. The first president of the International Olympic Committee for the Olympic Games, The current International Olympic Committee, would be the Greek, Dimetrius Vikelas, according to a resolution saying that the president should come from the host country of then next Olympic Games. Therefore, in a certain way it was written in the spirit of the times the revival of the Olympic Games. Several people tried it before Coubertin. According to some authors, is Le Baron who tried to delete the contribution of others to the revival of the Games. Even though, nobody can deny the decisive role of Coubertin, his capacity for leadership this new international movement. De Coubertin was the only man able to provide the Olympic Games a global dimension, to supply them not only with a sporting, but also with a cultural and artistic nature. His great talent for the public relations, enabled him to transmit the Olympics idea through the media, the newspapers of his time. He created a thought that has lasted until our days. [BLANK_AUDIO]
