[MUSIC] Welcome to module six. I'm Luigi Fratini, Head of Prevention Cell Unit in Geneva, ICRC, International Committee of Red Cross. Welcome to this module six. I'm very happy to discuss and discover with you the role of civil society in promoting and ensuring respect for healthcare in situational conflict or violence. Let's just imagine together for a few seconds to be in a town, walking in the streets. And suddenly we are faced with the situation of demonstrations where you have police officers, people who are shouting and the situation gets tense. You have wounded people on the ground, lying, nobody helping them. Ambulances are hampered to access to these places and nobody is taking care of those who are really in need to be treated. How the civic society, so how different actors like demonstrators, police officers, general public, media are playing their role in letting those actors understanding what is the importance of getting access to places and treat people who are wounded. So, how these people then when they get access are protected, are ensured their respect to take care of people who are wounded. So let's think of these elements and just reflect of your town, your village, your country and who is surrounding you. So on this module, we'll talk of something which is very common for you. Something that you have everyday around you. So this module will be complementary to the objective of the MOOC and also with the other module. We will go through this module focusing on four main actors. Four main actors that have been choose among many others but we felt that these ones are the ones that maybe we could better represent their role in strengthening protection of medical care and the healthcare in situation of violence or conflict. So the first one that you will see is lesson one is on national society, Red Cross and Red Crescent national, societies, their role in providing health directly and also in advocating for respect, the fundamental principle of the medical mission. Second would be the communities. Our communities are building up their resilience in order to cope with resolution of violence, treating wounded people within their own communities. And also, how they engage with authorities, ensuring respect for and access to medical staff to their communities and also initial respect for the wounded. That third one would be on medical association, medical associations as institution that facilitate and train medical staff. And also that advocate for the respect of the medical mission worldwide and also nationally, when the situation of tensions. The fourth, it will be on religious leaders, facilities and followers. So religious as a circles, as a group of people. And then we will focus how, we will see how in the recent conflicts through a few examples, how these religious group played an important role in protecting directly people who have been wounded. And how they advocate for the respect of life and in particular, the medical mission. So as you see there are four actors, that we will discuss together. And these actors will be maybe yes, maybe not important for you in the future. When you will be part of the government, you will be part of a hospital as a staff, you will be part of a national society as a volunteer. You think there should be someone that will do more to respect to the medical mission in your own context and environment. And maybe you can take on that with some of them in order to facilitate access to wounded people by ambulances or other associations where taking care of people wounded. But the same time ensuring and locating respect for their role and their work in situational conflicts or emergencies. So, without further hesitation, let's start, let's walk through this journey and I hope you will enjoy, as I enjoy with my colleagues in building up this for you. Thank you very much. [MUSIC]
